Capturing Memories Through the Miles

By Guest Blogger on 2015-05-10

I grew up in a very close family, the majority of my family all lived within 20 miles of each other. My grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins all got to see us grow up. My children are military brats.

We live 500 miles from our family, and it's hard on them to not see my girls (the first and only grand children on both sides) grow up.

Capturing family memories as children grow.

Frequent picture updates are something you definitely need to do because with a 4 year old and a 10 month old, they just grow so fast! SMS messages and Facebook updates are great but nothing is awesome as having pictures or photo gifts in hand!

I was so excited to take my girls to Portrait Innovations to get some nice, quality, professional pictures taken of them. Both of our families were excited for the end result: adorable pictures of their two favorite little girls. The online scheduling option made making an appointment super easy, because with a very vocal 10 month old sometimes it's hard to talk on the phone.

The session went really well. We got some great shots. The photographer was awesome and listened to what I wanted. The props were adorable, and great for spring! It also wasn't very long, which is key with little kids. It was long enough to get good shots but not long enough to cause meltdowns.

My 4 year old had so much fun that she was asking to go back for days!

The hardest part of the appointment was picking out pictures; they all came out so great. Our photographer and her assistant were amazing at getting my girls to smile (including the baby who was super crabby from cutting a new tooth), and got some really awesome shots that I can't wait to display in our home, and see displayed at our parents' homes.

I loved how my pictures were sent to my email within an hour of our session, and I was able to forward the link to my family and they were able to select their favorite pictures!

Every morning my dad uses the mug I got him with the girls' pictures on it, but he needs an updated one. And my mom has been wanting a little book of pictures of the girls, I got two, one for my mom and one for my mother-in-law. We also got a calendar for my grandparents with pictures from our session. We had a large canvas made of one of the pictures and it is hanging in our hallway. I love looking at that gorgeous pictures of my two little ladies.

My family might not get to see my little grow up every day but with photos and photo gifts, it makes it a little easier to deal with the distance. My oldest is already excited for our next session at Portrait Innovations!
